Deucebox | Citrus Double IPA
Inspired by Oranges, lots of oranges
There's nothing we love more than thinking up new recipes for new brews, but sometimes the best thing we can do is listen to you, the people. Last year we made a beer called Juicebox which seemed to go over pretty well so we thought... what happens if we make it bigger, bolder and better, we know - we could call it Deucebox.
So, with a super clever name locked in and the masses crying out for more juice, we brewed a Double Citrus IPA and rounded out the year by making 2016 almost bearable. Now that winter is gone and days are getting warmer, we've dusted of the recipe and here it is, return of the juice.
It's written directly into the recipe that the oranges for Deucebox be harvested by blasting California Dreaming through very large speakers at a very high intensity, the fruit then falls from the trees and simply juices itself. This is then added to our Citrus IPA recipe with twice the hops, twice the malt and twice the juice to serve up a punchy, tropical, glass of joy, every time.Explore
Galaxy | Single Hop Pale Ale
Beer ideas can come from anywhere, one of our favourite ideas recently was 'bin juice', a coffee banana porter that came from the mind of brewer Paul after opening one of the office bins and being struck with a strong aroma and burst of inspiration.
Not all ideas might make it off the brewery floor, and whilst we're not sure how many people would enjoy drinking a beer called bin juice, we love the source and story behind so many of our brews.
With that being said, some beers just inspire themselves and this is one such brew. Galaxy is a popular hop around the Fourpure camp, it has a bold aroma and full flavour and sometimes you just need to let the ingredients speak for themselves. Single hop beers allow us to really test the full influence of a hop without being distracted, this then feeds into other brews we do throughout the year.
Galaxy Single Hop Pale Ale is a boldly hoppy Pale Ale bursting with passionfruit aroma. Australian Galaxy hops shine clean and bright offering a punchier front end, ample mouth feel and a round finish. Dangerously drinkable.Explore
Limehaus | Dry Hopped Imperial Kolsch with Lime
German styles are especially fun to experiment with because it feels so verboten. Despite its hefty size, this beer is remarkably clean, crisp, and balanced. We brewed this beer with traditional German lager malt, and loaded up the whirlpool with floral German hops and aromatic, fresh lime zest. We then fermented it a low temperature, before dry hopping with an exciting blend of German and American hops, to create an overall hop profile that exhibits interesting characteristics of lemon and orange. We then added a little extra lime, before cold conditioning the beer for several weeks to give the beer a bright, refreshing finish.Explore
Our Outpost series takes inspiration from a wide range of sources, whether it be travels abroad, a fleeting conversation or a memorable dish at a local restaurant, these beers are unique and varying by nature. Outpost beers reflect our brewers need to innovate and the individual personalities that birth them, our (once homebrew) 1hL pilot brewery allows us to produce small batches that are daring, interesting and push the boundaries on what is possible with styles, ingredients and flavours. All of our team are encouraged to work with the brewing team across this range and you’ll find them in limited volumes at various events and outlets, keep an eye on our tap room beer list to see what’s fresh and available this week.
Over the last 25-30 years, brewing has changed on a global scale, it’s is an industry that transcends language or geography, that brings people together professionally and socially and increasingly it’s an industry that loves to share, teach and collaborate. Our Pioneer series showcases a meeting of minds, the coming together of brewers and breweries from around the corner or across the globe to produce something new and different based on a shared love of a style, flavour or ingredient.
Inspired by Cloudwater Brewery
Mutual respect and a love of bold, flavoursome beers lead to a conversation with our friends at Cloudwater about the opportunity to brew together. Cloudwater founder and head brewer Paul Jones was keen, and in late 2016 headed down to brew with the team knocking out this little number, a 6.6% Belgian Black Double IPA.Explore
Two Tone Red
Inspired by Ska Brewing
Ska were in town and we’d just bought their depal. We bonded with Ska co-founder Matt Vincent over a few beers and as one thing lead to another we came up with the collab idea and got it done! As ever the learning experience, the brew was far from trouble free, we had mashing in failures and had to grain in by hand. Embarrassing and tough, John was away at the time. The result however was a damn tasty red.Explore
Inspired by Bear Republic
Bear republic are known as one of the very early west coast IPA breweries with their racer 5, if not the first. It’s iconic. Dan and Jemma Lowe (just two of our illustrious founders) stopped by Bear Republic on a trip to California in May 2014 and were hosted by Brewmaster Peter Kruger and owner Ricardo. They bonded over a long morning session, loaded Dan and Jemma up with beers and then sent them to their brewpub in Healdsburg for lunch. "They comped us all the way. It was great."
Peter’s wife’s family live in the UK not far from the Lowe's and he was coming for Xmas 2014/2015 so after keeping in touch, he came to brew here at Fourpure. We had experimental hops shipped over by Bear Republic, which had all sorts of complications, but we got there.. The beer was launched at the Three Johns for which we also flew over a keg of Racer 5, it was the first one in the UK, airfreight 24 hours from filling their end to landing at ours, and pouring a day later. It was 48 hour old Racer 5 plus Transatlantic Overdrive pouring at the launch. The kegs lasted 45 minutes. Bear Republic also brewed the beer and had a great time locally with it in Cali.
Dan returned to California in April 2015 to do a tap takeover at their pub in Healdsburg and again in Septmeber 2016 with Fourpure crew in tow. They’re due back this summer (2017) for Transatlantic Overdrive 2! Brewing relationships are a wonderful thing.Explore
